There is no denying that today we are in the middle of the biggest climate crises the Earth has ever seen. Science has proven this, and it is not our responsibility to do as little damage as we can. If you are reading this article, it is already a testament to your commitment to owning an eco-friendly house. Being environmentally conscious has to be something that you must include in your daily lifestyle and mold it gradually.
As someone who already practices a lot of eco-friendly things in the house, today I am highlighting some of the small changes that you incorporate to turn the property into an eco-friendly place. Most of the changes mentioned below are small, require little effort but can have a massive impact in the long-term so the key towards this eco-friendly journey is to start!
- Install Solar Panels
One of the best things about my house in Candeur Landmark is that I installed solar panels for a lot of different reasons. Not only are they essential to turn your apartment into a sustainable home but they also support the clean energy initiative which is important for the environment. It is a long-term investment that can also be used to generate more energy and supply it to the community use making you a thoughtful owner of an eco-friendly house.
- Smart Lighting
One of the common ways that people waste a lot of energy in the house is by forgetting to switch off the lights when they have left the room. Installing smart plugs and lights is an awesome tech-savvy way of ensuring you have eco-friendly homes. Energy-efficient bulbs and lighting has been in the market for a long time, but people have just started to realize their importance when they want to make your home an eco-friendly property.
- Practice Natural Cleaning
Before the world was taken over by packaged products and big shopping centers, people were heavily involved and committed to creating a green and healthy home. Embracing natural cleaning products like vinegar, limes and other citric fruits is a great way to continue your commitment towards a greener Earth! When you substitute natural products and ditch the chemicals, the water used for watching utensils takes much lesser time to re-purify thereby making it a huge opportunity to turn your apartment into a sustainable home.
- Reuse and Recycle
Recycling is the way of the future! You have heard this many times before but many people tend to think that it may not be feasible. This is false and I’m here to tell you that recycling and reusing go a long way in making it an eco-friendly house. You can reuse anything from an old shirt to bottles and toiletries which will save you money and also help you make you independent. When you take the lead and start making such small changes yourself, you will notice that it will rub-off on the other family members making it easier for the entire household to be green and eco-friendly.
- Save Water
We may not realize it every time but everyone wastes a lot of water when doing chores and daily tasks. If you are serious about turning our properties into eco-friendly homes then saving water should also be a priority for you. You can start by making minor changes such as not keeping the tap running when you are brushing your teeth or watching your face. A survey suggested that globally people waste close to 40,000 liters of water which can be easily avoided. You can also reuse the water for other purposes such as watering the plants, cleaning the vehicles, etc.
- Home Garden
When the title said small changes, growing your vegetables in the home garden is exactly the example I want to tell everyone. This is a personal favorite and has turned into a hobby for me. Home gardening may require a bit of investment at first but it is the best way to start if you wish to own eco-friendly homes. Not only is it saving you grocery money, but it will also help in further reducing your carbon footprint by saving burning gas in the car and wasting plastic use on packaging.
- Buy Old Furniture
Second-hand items are looked down upon by most of the people but if you are serious about trees being cut to satisfy the growing demand of the furniture business and having an eco-friendly place then you must be open to buying old furniture. The trick while buying is to widen your search and look for the best used furniture item. You can check popular marketplace websites or even use your social media to see if anyone you know wants to sell something you are looking for!
The above mentioned are just the basic 7 things that you can implement in your life from today itself that will help you in creating a green and healthy home for yourself. Once you start the journey you will find innovative ways of saving our motherEarth.
